Texas Company, Houston à New York.

I have not reported to you on this matter since I had the

honor to address you last on the 18th instant (as in the enclosure),

and have thus not confirmed your œble received three days later, as

I was expecting from day to day to hear from you the result of the kind

inquiries you were making in Hongkong, as you cabled, relative to

Hesara, Dodwell's candidature for this aganey, and because I felt I

must not trouble you in these times with any letters unless absolute-

ly necessary,

However, the next mail is not likely to leave until a wook

hence, so I must not defer any longer this omifirmation of your cable,

just referred to, which reached me on the 15th instant, reading:

"Youre 11th 12th. Understood that Governor's decision, fomed on Cheetham's resignation, is not to sanotion any arrangement in- volving your Company unless in conjunction with some approved local firm, whose position for the future must be assured stop.
